Champel: activities to encourage senior citizens to stay active

Two Tuesdays per month starting in May, walking and muscle strengthening activities will be organised for senior citizens in Champel, in complete safety and without prior reservation. A first series will take place in May-June, with a second series in July-August. The “Bouger entre seniors” activity will take place in Parc Bertrand. Supported by the Social Service, this free activity is organised by the Réseau Aînés de Champel and its partners.

People aged over 65 have been particularly affected by the health crisis, with some of them facing a risk of isolation. Against this backdrop, Bouger entre seniors provides an opportunity to benefit from a programme of gentle physical activities, two Tuesday per month, in their own neighbourhood, combining walking, balancing exercises and muscle strengthening.

Dates and times

The meeting point is near the paddling pool in Parc Bertrand, with no prior registration required. The number of participants will depend on the health measures in force.

“Bouger entre seniors” is intended for self-reliant individuals as well as people who are less mobile, and will take place on the following dates and times:

11 and 25 May, 8 and 22 June

• 2.30 p.m.: group of self-reliant and physically mobile individuals

• 3.30 p.m.: group of individuals who are accompanied or who walk with the help of auxiliary aids

13 and 27 July, 10 and 24 August

• 10 a.m.: group of self-reliant and physically mobile individuals

• 11 a.m.: group of individuals who are accompanied or who walk with the help of auxiliary aids.

Organised by the partners of the Réseau Aîné-e-s de Champel, this project enjoys the support of the Club des seniors de Champel, the Eaux-Vives Cité / Champel local social outreach centre, the imad, the Haute école de santé and the officers of the municipal police force.

In addition to certain physical benefits, “Bouger entre seniors” offers senior citizens the chance to meet and take advantage of personalised advice from health and safety professionals. This activity is part of a broader prevention and support campaign for local solidarity actions developed by the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity.
