Bienvenue +: a guide for events open to all

The City of Geneva has adopted a cross-cutting universal accessibility policy with a view to taking persons with special needs into account when organising its events and services. The little guide entitled “Bienvenue+” is intended to improve the welcome offered to everyone concerned during conferences, debates, cultural or sporting events and any other community activities.

The City of Geneva signs the call for Swiss adherence to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

The Executive Council of the City of Geneva has signed the call issued by the federal authorities in favour of Swiss adherence to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). This treaty prohibits the use, production and stockpiling of nuclear weapons, paving the way to their total elimination.

The Christmas market by and for children in Parc des Bastions

Every year in December, Parc des Bastions hosts the traditional Christmas market organised by and for children. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday 7 December, the city’s primary school children will have the opportunity to sell their toys and games in a heated marquee. Activities, food and drinks stalls will also be organised on site. A free afternoon snack will be provided for the children.

Christmas lights have returned to the city – with legwork

Ten or so Christmas illuminations are decorating the city centre from 1 December 2022 till 3 January 2023. For the first time, one of the installations will be operated by bicycles, powered by... the public.

Between costumes, games and chocolate cauldrons, come and celebrate l’Escalade. In addition to the grand historical parade and the festivities organised by the Compagnie 1602, several visits and activities will take place to celebrate these two special days.

Wonderful encounters through games with the Ludomicile

Thanks to the Ludomicile, senior citizens or less mobile people can enjoy the games proposed by their local games library in complete safety. This original service is provided with support from volunteers benefiting from the advice of the games librarians. The service can also be provided at a local hall.

Massive planting programme to ensure the future of our tree heritage

While the tree heritage of the City of Geneva has suffered somewhat due to the heatwave and the long periods of drought and bad weather in recent months, the teams of the Parks and Gardens Service (SEVE) have been tasked with planting almost 600 specimens by spring 2023. Studies are also being conducted on the health status of the trees and the possibility of transforming parking spaces into planting areas.

Throughout the month of December, the City of Geneva will join forces with Genève Commerces, the professional association of retail businesses in Geneva, to develop an innovative pilot project and offer anyone and everyone the chance to leave their Christmas shopping at a supervised drop-off point, free of charge, in the city centre.

With the inclusion of Vernier and Versoix, there are now 10 municipalities encouraging consumers to repair, rent or buy items second-hand in order to reduce their environmental footprint. An essential approach in this time of climate emergency.
